The Blackbird - Seattle
The Blackbird is a massive, soaring reflection room that flies high in the canopies of Seattle's urban rainforest. It feels like our most expansive space yet, with a true open floor plan and continuous windows all around. LED trim highlights its curves and a water closest in the stern allows visitors to fly through the night. The entry system saw the return of the O2 basket lift entering through the subfloor docking station. The skeleton of The Blackbird is a highly customized steel armature built from bent steel and laser cut bracketry. Three massive gluelam beams come together in a tour-de-force foundation and triangulate the two Douglas Firs and Hemlock tree that cradle the treehouse. Finish details include maple ply on the arced ceiling, cedar slats visible on the front and rear porch, black corrugated roofing above 6” of insulation, hardwood floors with radiant heat, and custom cabinetry around the bathroom walls.
